Integrative Massage

Our specialty is Integrative Therapeutic Massage which includes a blending of many techniques.  Whether you want to relax, or have a specific condition that needs addressing, or both, we specialize in combining a variety of techniques to create the best session for you.  Massage therapy is a partnership between the client and the therapist.  We work with you on specific areas to relieve pain, but we also help you relax and release tension and stress.
Some of the techniques we blend are:
Neuromuscular Massage
Commonly used for injury rehabilitation or chronic pain conditions. Medium to deep sustained pressure is applied to myofascial trigger points with the intention of “erasing” the trigger points (contracted nodules in the myofascial complex), creating more range of motion, correcting for postural distortions and biomechanical dysfunctions, and increasing healthy fluid flow to the area in conjunction with stretches and home care we can recommend.
Medical Massage
Outcomes-based massage, primarily the application of a specific treatment targeted to the specific problem(s)  Most often, the patient is referred by a Doctor or other health care practitioner. After a thorough assessment/evaluation, specific outcomes are the basis for treatment.
Swedish Massage
Primarily consists of long gliding and kneading strokes which encourage relaxation and stress reduction.
Deep Tissue Massage
Firmer pressure than used in Swedish. Slow deep strokes are used to affect the deeper layers of muscle and fascia.
Myofascial Release
No oil or lotion is used and directional stretching of the skin, muscles, and fascia produces mobilization of adhesive tissues.  The pressure is slow and continuous as the layers of tissues release.

Hot Stone Massage

Using smooth, flat, and heated rocks placed at key points on the body, the therapist is able to  target and sooth areas such as the back, hands,  etc.  The massage therapist also may hold the rocks and use them to work the muscles.

Lymph Drainage Therapy

The lymph system collects waste products and cellular debris from the tissues and eliminates metabolic waste products from the body.  Inflammation and the resultant sluggish lymph is linked to many diseases.  This manual treatment gently encourages drainage of the lymphatic vessels and is easily combined with other massage techniques.

Thai Massage

Thai massage, originally developed in Thailand, is influenced by the traditional medicine systems of India, China, and Southeast Asia. This form of body work is performed with the client wearing comfortable clothing and lying on a special padded mat on the floor.  Passive stretches and rhythmic compression increase deep flexibility and enhance blood flow to the entire body.  The depth of the stretches is dependent on the flexibility of the client.  Nothing is forced. No oils or lotions are used.

Reiki

The word “reiki” means universal life force in Japanese.  Reiki has been practiced for thousands of years, but its current form of practice is attributed to Dr. Mikaou Usui who "rediscovered" this powerful and gentle healing force over 100 years ago.  Reiki is an energy technique for promoting wellness throughout the whole body, decreasing stress and increasing relaxation.  While it is most often done in conjunction with other massage techniques it can be done as a solo treatment.

Ear Candling

Specially designed cones are lit on the wide end while the narrow end is gently inserted into the ear.  The heat and smoke encourage the softening of ear wax and the elimination of wastes.  Head and neck massage is included.

Oncology Massage

Massage can be helpful during and after cancer treatment.  An oncology-trained therapist has completed additional specialized training for working with people who have a history of or are currently undergoing cancer treatment.
The body of research relating to massage and cancer is small but growing. Clinical research shows that massage can improve some cancer treatment side effects, namely perception of pain and anxiety.
Massage benefits can include:
  • Reduced pain and fatigue
  • Decreased anxiety
  • Less nausea
  • Improved sleep,  eased isolation
  • Enhanced body image
  • Greater sense of well-being
